Platelet Rich Plasma for stretch mark therapy
Men and women both struggle with the cosmetic imperfection of stretch marks. It happens to be one of the most top rated skincare issues men and women face today. Stretch marks can be found all over the body, but mainly appear in places with larger amounts of fat. These areas include abdomen, breast, hips, thighs, and buttocks. At YoungerMeMD, as the medical esthetician, I am excited to announce that there is a major advancement in treating stretch marks! The treatment is an all-natural and involves your own blood to diminish new and old stretch marks with the use of PRP and Microneedling.
Over time the body tends to fluctuate in weight and size. With the progression of weight gain and growth the fiber and tissue in our skin starts to loose elastin and collagen which is essential for regrowth of new cells. As the skin stretches it no longer has underlying support creating reddish, pink or purple marks. Overtime the color will fade and create a glossy thin layer of tissue that looks unflattering and no longer appears as healthy skin. Stretch marks are based mostly off of genetics and our bodies’ abilities to create healthy skin cells; unfortunately sometimes you cannot beat genetics. However, there are still solutions!
How does Microneedling and PRP make stretch marks disappear?
The Microneedle is used to create microscopic micro-injuries, which in effect activate collagen reproduction synthesis. After the necessary amounts of passes are applied to the area, PRP is dripped in moderation onto the skin topically and massaged into problematic areas. With this massage technique it allows the PRP to penetrate deeper into the dermis. PRP contains stem cells that stimulate new collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer skin and improved texture. With each treatment, the skin becomes tauter with the renewal of healthy tissue growth that repairs the once thin layer of skin. Remember, patience is a virtue This a gradual process and immediate results should not be expected to happen overnight.
What can I expect from the treatment?
The treatment can be applied to any troubling area of the body. The blood is first drawn by our Physician and placed into a centrifuge that separates the PRP from the blood. The skin is prepped with a basic cleanse, followed by a topical, numbing agent. The PRP is then separated and applied topically after Microneedling is performed. The treatment time depends on the area of the body, but usually requires about an hour depending upon the depth of tissue lost and area of application. A series of 3 is highly recommended for optimal results. In some cases a series of 6 is necessary if the stretch marks are in a larger area. Maintenance packages can also be acquired, to keep the skin looking its’ most radiant.
