Poor Sleep Makes You Reach for Fattening Pick-Me-Ups

The basic tenets of weight loss say that you need to eat less and move more. While this is good advice, many people who start out on a diet and exercise plan quickly grow frustrated when they don’t see the kind of results they’re looking for. Waking up early to work out seems like a waste of time if the scale never budges…and it could be if you’re waking up early when you’ve had a late night or didn’t sleep well. Exercise is important, but lack of good quality sleep can counteract your best weight loss efforts since sleep is also one of the key ingredients to weight loss success. If you go to bed late and wake up early, you’re probably not getting enough quality sleep. Without good quality sleep, your body doesn’t have the energy to exercise. It also stops burning fat and can also make you feel hungrier. Poor sleep can also alter your metabolism so that your hormones are no longer regulating your insulin the way they should be—causing you to pack on the pounds. Read more…
